To change civ names you can just edit the text files you can find in this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age2HD\Bin\en (en or whichever language you're using). If you don't have the Steam version, you'll need "Resource hacker" to edit the language_x1.dll.

Go into this folder. There should be a file called age2_x1.xml. Copy this file to your Games folder that you just created. The XML File Now edit (using any simple text editor) the age2_x1.xml that you just copied and pasted. It should look something like this:

Hi Thomas! The first thing that comes to mind is not having the proper language.dll, language_x1.dll, and language_x1_p1.dll files, since HD and Compat Patch don't provide them, I think. The second thing would be attempting to use windowed mode support (wndmode.dll in the age2_x1 folder) with Wine, which isn't supported.
